Zaccharie Risacher Delivers Exactly What Dallas Mavericks Needed

P.J. Washington Silences Flagg Fit Doubts In Dallas

P.J. Washington is proving he and Cooper Flagg belong together. The Mavericks wing is shutting down trade rumors with elite defense and inside play.

Zaccharie Risacher is on the Mavericks and is addressing a major problem for the team. The young forward has delivered exactly what the team needed to speed up their game and lock down opponents. Through the first five games, he has recorded 15 combined steals and blocks. This number ranks first among all bench players in the league by a wide margin. That stat line proves he is already the defensive anchor off the bench that Dallas craved.

The Defensive Havoc Factor

Risacher’s impact goes far beyond simple box score numbers. He creates turnovers that turn directly into easy points for his teammates. In the recent win over Oklahoma City, he stripped Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on a drive. He then sprinted from the opposite three-point line to block a layup that should have been an easy two points. This type of effort changes the entire flow of a game.

The coaching staff sees this value clearly. The team option for his contract next season was exercised just five games into the year. That is a huge vote of confidence from the front office. Risacher explained his mindset simply after the win. “That’s what I do, and I feel like that’s just the mindset I have every time I step on the court,” Risacher said. He added, “Just wanting to be impactful, want to win the game. It’s as simple as that.”

Shots Are Getting Easier

Early in the season, some fans worried about his offense. He looked uncomfortable creating his own shots in three of his first five games. His field goal percentage dipped below 36 percent during that stretch. But the game against the Thunder showed a different player. He made 2-for-3 from deep and 5-for-6 from the field. Every make came off a catch-and-shoot, a putback, or a teammate finding him on a cut.

Coach Dusty May noticed the change in his shooting rhythm immediately. May noted that Risacher was playing with what he calls a “quiet eye” to slow the game down. “(Today) he was really close to having as good of a stat line as his impact on the game,” May said after the Miami Heat win earlier this week, according to Mavs Moneyball.

Teammates are already feeling the boost. Cooper Flagg stated the team is significantly better when Risacher is on the floor. “I think we’re 15 to 20 points better with [Risacher] just doing the little things,” Flagg said. That number is massive for a team trying to climb the standings. Risacher brings unmatched energy and conditioning that never seems to fade. According to the Smoking Cuban, “It’s been [Risacher’s] motor and conditioning, the guy never gets tired”

The Mavericks have found a key piece in their bench rotation. His defense is elite, and his offense is finally clicking with the flow of the team. Dallas is 3-2 and sitting in the seventh seed because of this rise.
