Dak Prescott’s Draft Classmate Proved Mid-Round QBs Win Big

You think first-round picks always win? Dallas Cowboys report shows the best QBs in the last decade were actually drafted in rounds three through five.

Zaccharie Risacher has become the missing piece for the Dallas Mavericks right away. Through the first five games of the season, he has recorded 15 combined steals and blocks. This total ranks first among all bench players across the entire league by a wide margin. The team needed a spark on defense, and Risacher is providing it in a big way. His energy changes the pace of the game whenever he steps onto the floor.

Risacher creates fast-break chances for teammates like Cooper Flagg by stripping the ball from opponents. He shows incredible effort by running full court to block shots that would usually go in. This type of hustle allows Dallas to play the fast style they want without fear of giving up easy points.

A Calm Eye Under Pressure

For a young player, staying calm when the game gets loud is a huge challenge. Risacher used to look rushed, but he has found a new rhythm on offense. Coach Dusty May noticed the change after a recent win against the Miami Heat. “His shots didn’t look rushed, it looked like he was playing with a much – we call it quiet eye – with a much quieter eye,” May said, according to Yahoo Sports. This mental shift helps him make better decisions with the ball in his hands.

His shooting efficiency against the Oklahoma City Thunder is clear. Risacher shot 5-for-6 from the field and hit two three-pointers in that game. He did not try to force difficult shots but instead took open looks created by his teammates. This approach fits perfectly with the playmaking of Kyrie Irving and the drive of Cooper Flagg.

Teammates See the Value

The rest of the roster knows exactly how much Risacher adds to the squad. His motor never seems to quit, and he competes at the highest level every single night. May praised his ability to add value from any spot on the court. “It’s been [Risacher’s] motor and conditioning, the guy never gets tired,” May said, according to the Smoking Cuban. This consistency makes the team feel more secure when the starters rest.

Even his teammates are shocked by how much better the team plays with him in the mix. Cooper Flagg believes the Mavericks are significantly stronger because of Risacher’s little things. “I think we’re 15 to 20 points better with [Risacher] just doing the little things,” Flagg said. The front office concurs, having already activated the fourth-year team option in his deal for the upcoming season.

Risacher knows his job is simple: make an impact and win. “Just wanting to be impactful, want to win the game. It’s as simple as that,” he said after the win over OKC. The Mavericks have added a player who fits their system. As the season moves forward, expect his role to grow even larger.
