The Dallas Cowboys finally found their offensive rhythm after crushing the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday night. But the real story isn’t the score. It is the confession from their quarterback about why the offense looked so one-dimensional for weeks. Dak Prescott admitted the team got too caught up in trying to air it out instead of using their full talent.
For two straight weeks, fans watched a high-octane attack disappear. The run game seemed forgotten. Then against the Eagles, the script flipped completely. Javonte Williams ran the ball 25 times for 155 yards. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens still scored, but the balance was the key. This shift saved the season from a total collapse.
The Pass Game Trap
Prescott knows exactly what went wrong. He told reporters that having so much talent made the team lazy. “I don’t think we’re necessarily struggling creating it, we know what we want to be,” Dak said of the offense’s identity. He explained that the weapons are so good that players sometimes forget the basics.
“When you’ve got the weapons, when you’ve got the talent we have sometimes, you can get caught up in trying to air it out,” he added. The offense took the line for granted. They forgot that controlling the line of scrimmage and time of possession opens up play-action. It is a simple mistake for a team with this much skill.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer made a conscious call to fix this. He stuck with the run after abandoning it the week before. The result was immediate. Dallas finished with a season-high 204 rushing yards. This was the formula they needed all along.
Can They Keep It Up?
The next test comes on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. ET. The Arizona Cardinals come to AT&T Stadium. The numbers say Dallas should win easily. The Cardinals rank 28th in rush success percentage allowed. That is a huge weakness for a team that needs to run.
According to Yahoo Sports, the strategy is clear. A dominant offensive line that just crushed a top defense will allow the running backs to feast. If they do that, it makes life much easier for Prescott and his receivers. The Cardinals are 2-5 and struggling to play complementary football.
But the Cowboys cannot afford to get comfortable. They are clawing back into the NFC East race.
